Episode 563: Battleground - interview with Centuries Of Decay

July 12, 2019

Its an honour just to compete in the Waken Metal Battle Canada. It's right off the bloody hook if you win the whole shebang and get to strut your stuff on the Wacken stage. Victorious in the 2018 edition was Toronto's Centuries Of Decay. Normally we reserve our "Creature Feature" segment for more established acts (i.e. signed). But when an act with a story to tell like C.O.D. steps up then we gotta step up ourselves. During the outfit's recent stop in our neck of the woods we sat down with axe/vox Devin Doucette. We discussed competing in the Battle then the subsequent gig at Wacken! We're so stoked for them! In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we discuss fun in the Behemoth pit and go off on the recent Tau Cross controversy. Musically we crank some Centuries..., Victims, Immortal Bird, Amon Amarth, Flash Out, and introduce Elektric Mistress in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns!!

Episode 561: Under Cover

Episode 561: Under Cover

June 28, 2019

Heavy Metallers are a more discerning group of music lovers. Of course its the awesome tunes that count. But Metalheads appreciate the complete package. Now with the rebirth of the mighty vinyl, packaging and presentation is once again an important part of the musical Metal journey. Obviously the first thing that comes to mind is the album cover. While a lot of sub par genres like pop and country are content with a boring band pic, Heavy Metal has a rich history of beautiful artwork. A lot of the time this artwork becomes synonymous with the band itself. This week we sit down with some Lemmys and share our lists of the most Iconic album covers of the genre's illustrious history. We go into extra innings but we guarantee you'll be thinking of RAM the next time your in the music shop. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we celebrate "Go Skateboarding Day" and christen a RAM alum and honorary Canadian!! Musically, we crank new tunes from Saint Vitus, Sekkusu, and Temple Of The Witch. As well as some classics from Bathory, Minor Threat and Beyond Possession!! Horns!!

Episode 559: Used To Love “Em

Episode 559: Used To Love “Em

June 7, 2019

The rock n roll world is all abuzz. Recently Slash himself announced that the reunited trio of Axl, Duff and himself have begun working on new material. Finding ourselves in the previously unknown territory of not having a "Creature Feature" for the second week in a row, we decided it would be a good time to discus the idea of new GnR tunage. Are we excited? Curious? Even care? How will the rest of Metaldom react to new music? Everybody already has strong opinions about the outfit's recorded output. Especially the more controversial songs. A handful of songs garnered a lot negative press and stirred up the shite'. So we took the time to dissect those illustrious songs. Another great episode filled by passion and alcohol!! In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we crank some awesome songs in their own right courtesy of Dopethrone, Zaum, and introduce Canadian thrashers Concrete Funeral in this week's "Indie Spotlight". Horns!!

Episode 558: Money For Something

Episode 558: Money For Something

May 31, 2019

With seemingly every band either travelling to and/or playing the Maryland Deathfest we found ourselves without a "Creature Feature" this week. No pro-blem-o. This week we kick up our feet, broke out the beer and Lemmys, and just let loose. Everyone has played the "If I Won The Lottery" game. If money were no object, what would you do. We had our drunken version of this game geared toward Heavy Metal. Where would we go. What we do. How would we contribute further to the Metal World. Crack open one of your faves and give this a listen. In our "News, Views, and Tunes",we pay tribute to artists that created some key Metallic art. We crank some new tunes from Hate, Martydod, Jesus Piece, some classic Sodom and SNFU, and introduce Wykan in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns!!

May 24, 2019

Another 'Bucket List" moment! Its beginning to look a lot like '87 'round here with a number of big name artists on the comeback trail. Leading the pack is the mighty Sacred Reich. The thrash veterans have been faves of ours since their awesome debut. Now decades later the Reich are back and ready to dominate once again. Step one - new album. "Awakening" will be hitting the racks this summer. To tide you over, we finally sat down with bass/vox Phil Rind. We get into the new album, inspirations for new material, and the band's relationship with Tony Forresta (Iron Reagan, Municipal Waste). And we have a personal "Thanx" to give him! In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we share tales from the live front and give our condolences on recent Metal tragedies. Musically we crank the new 'Reich plus new tunes from Nocturnus AD, Helevorn, Adrenaline, some classic Goblin, and introduce Regina hardcore bashers FPG in our "Indie Spotlight'! Horns!!

Episode 556: Metal Mode - interview with KEN Mode

May 17, 2019

Better late than never. Canadian metallic noise rockers KEN Mode have obviously been on our radar from the get go. The Season Of Mist recording artists are an established, internationally renowned touting outfit. But they're also hometown heroes only now finally getting their spot on the "Creature Feature" hotseat. Right before hitting the stage in their primo slot at the Manitoba Metalfest, we sat down with all three members of the 'Mode - Jesse Mathewson (vox, axe), Shane Mathewson (drums), and Skot Hamilton (bass). We go over the latest record "Loved", their spot and impact on the Seasons label and just have a whole lotta fun. A highly entertaining chat not to be missed. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we discuss the "perfect song" and give the Horns for "Vinnie Paul Day". Musically, we crank the new KEN Mode, new tunes from Full of Hell, SunnO))), Burial and introduce Montreal metallers Ghoulunatics in our "Indie Spotlight"! Horns!

Episode 555: We Ain’t Trippin’ - interview with Power Trip

May 10, 2019

Crossover thrashers Power Trip seem forged especially for RAM. 65% Metal. 35% Hardcore. 5% pro wrasslin'. Right before the Trippers hit the road they took the time to headline the Manitoba Metalfest giving us the opportunity for a long overdue chat. Vox/mainman Riley Gale was eager to talk record 2.5 (??) "Opening Fire 2008 -2014", their SOLD OUT (!!) Decibel cover, and the band's musical involvement with the WWE. On 4/20 no less. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we go over the Lamb Of God stolen axe incident, the Cro Mags lawsuit sitch, and producer Rick Rubin's controversial "Slayer/black metal" statement. Musically we crank some Power Trip, new tunes from Tanith, Destrage, Windswept, Amygdala, some Necrophobic, and introduce (another Trip) in Canadian punkers Guilt Trip in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns!!
