A Whale Of a Tale

The 2024 Record Store Day is in the books. We had a variety of RSD exclusive releases in mind when we set out this past weekend morn. One particular platter was the '77 Ennio Morricone "Orca" soundtrack. The flick is an old fave about a vengeful killer whale seeking revenge on the fisherman that slaughtered his family. We obsessed over this record, bouncing from shop to shop. Kind of a real life Captain Ahab as he obsessed over his elusive whale in classic novel "Moby Dick". Just call us Ismael.
Was RSD a success for you? Do you find your booty? In our "News, Views and Tunes", we pay tribute to two legends and announce the 2024 This Is Hardcore fest. Musically, crank some Witchfinder General, Cold As Life, ACXDC, Pentagram (Chile), Seth, Castle Rat and we introduce Quebec bashers Backstabber in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns Up!

Multiverse Of Metal
Friday Apr 19, 2024
Friday Apr 19, 2024
We have a number of pop culture interests outside our beloved genre. Our fandom in the wonderful world of comic books outdates our residency in Metaldom. Indie comic companies have been clamoring to present stories about and inspired by current Metal artists. There have been some cool crossover stories as well. Think Elvira meets Vincent Price.
So we took our love of "funny books" and thought up some cool crossovers featuring our fave Metal artists. How about Misfits/Scooby Doo, Gwar/XMen and Henry Rollins vs. Wolverine. The ideas are endless. In our "News, Views and Tunes", we lost another Punk legend and regret WrestleMania. Musically, we crank some Tyr, Thor, Trespass, Drop Dead, Witch Hazel, Victor Crowley and Personality Crisis. Horns Up!!

A Questionable Episode

Tuesday Apr 16, 2024
Regrets, we've had a few. The biggest regrets we've had with RAM is the passing of some legendary figures before we had the chance to sit down with them. We can only imagine what questions we would have picked their brains with.
So now we're doing the next best thing. We compiled a list of deceased artists and present a question we'd like to throw at them. Artists like Dee Dee Ramone, Chuck of Death and El Duce(!!). What question would you throw to your fave heavenly Headbanger.
In our "News, Views and Tunes", we hit the live front, found a copy of the original Marvel KISS comic and pay tribute to a local Punk legend. Musically, we crank some Necophagia, Attacker, Mentors, Pentagram, Dogs With Jobs, Scavenger, Fetid Grave, Cell and Mung. Horns Up!

Amazing Grace

Friday Mar 29, 2024
Welcome to our second installment of our Deep Dive series on all the awesome albums celebrating their 40th anniversary i.e. from '84.
This week we're looking at Rush's "Grace Under Pressure". This was a divisive effort as the legendary trio shifted from 70s prog to a more 80s look and sound. This album didnt spend a lot of time on our turntables. So we enlisted the services of our resident Rush connoisseur Mark Buell. Mr. Buell plys his trade with Connect Humanity, an organization dedicated to bring the internet to communities facing that challenge. So we put our heads together to straighten out all the whys and wherefores of this amazing record.
In our "News, Views and Tunes", we discuss "The Godfather" film and hail the return of "The Savage Sword of Conan" magazine. Musically, we crank some new + used from Razor, Vulture, Stretch Marks, Horndal, Convict (Can), Corpus Vile and Antichrist Siege Machine. And in our "Indie Spotlight" we spin long defunct Canadian punkers D.A.C. Horns Up!

Horns!! One of our special days is fast approaching! Record Store Day is a huge part of this show and our lives. The main idea behind RSD is to support your local record shop. To help getcher butts into the shops, every year there is a number of RSD exclusive releases for your listening pleasure. There is something for everyone but generally only a few titles for us. So as is annual tradition now, we hit up www.recordstoreday.com to help us decide what new records are turning our crank. Go to the website, find the list and "dig" with us. Which records are you grabbing? In our "News, Views and Tunes", we get drenched at Gwar and acknowledge "Thin Lizzy Day". Musically, we crank some Witchginder General, Ghoul, Jucifer, Derketa and Houwitzer. Horns Up!!

What's In A Word?
Thursday Mar 14, 2024
Thursday Mar 14, 2024
Everyone has their own way of expressing themselves. Verbally, we all have our own words and expressions. Metaldom is no exception. If anything we have more unique words in our verbal arsenal than Joe Average. Off the top of our heads, "Axe" (for guitar) comes to mind. So with that starting point, we dive into a laundry (all black, of course) list of slang descriptive words. How many of these do you use everyday? In our "News, Views and Tunes", we discuss the numeral "777" and we caught the political protest performance artists Pussy Riot. Musically, we crank new + used from Atrophy, Omen, Hellion, Bloodcum, Iron Curtain, Brat and the aforementioned Pussy Riot. Horns Up!

Reunion Confusion
Thursday Mar 07, 2024
Thursday Mar 07, 2024
You can literally count on one hand the years the mighty Slayer have been disbanded. Now an impending reunion for multiple festival dates have been announced. Needless to say, this has Metaldom all a buzz. And of course once the announcement was made, the interwebs was flooded with misinformation causing confusion. So this week we pick our way through the mirth. Is this too soon to be an official reunion? Is is something you'd pay big bucks to see in '24? And Horns to Mrs. Arraya for being so entertaining through all this. In our "News, Views and Tunes", we discuss pro wrassler Sting's last match. Musically, we crank some new and used from Midnight, D.R.I., Minor Threat, Bitch, Forgotten Rebels, Sentry, Vexange and we introduce Moncton's Omnivide in our "Indie Spitlight". Horns Up!!

Animalize (Talk Like A Beast)
Friday Mar 01, 2024
Friday Mar 01, 2024
As we yacked about last episode, 1984 was an amazing year for Metaldom. A major part of that awesomeness was the incredible amount of new records that filled the new release racks. So with these albums celebrating their 40th anniversary, we decided to give some of them the deep dive treatment.
KISS' "Animalize" is an album near and dear to our Metal Hearts, for different reasons. So we go over the whys and wherefores, the tracklist, the artwork, the whole She-Bang. Give this album a refresher then give us a spin.
In our "News, Views and Tunes", we checked out the Captain Comics Expo and some cool vinyl docs. Musically, we crank some Blood Red Throne, Heavy Load, Critical Defiance, Decrowned, Blood Opera and introduce orginal hometown (Ottawa) bashers Hatred Reigns in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns Up!!

'84 Is 40
Friday Feb 23, 2024
Friday Feb 23, 2024
How does the time fly? 1984 was an incredible year for Metaldom. The new release racks were filled with albums that are not only all time classics now, but helped shape the Metal world as we know it today.
So this week we do a deep dive into that year that was. Apart from the amazing records, there were an obscene amount of mandatory outfits that formed. And there were news events that we still talk about today. Where's our logo sticker covered Delorian??!! In our "News, Views and Tunes", we attend the 40th (!!) anniversay Vader tour and make Terry Butler an honourary Winnipegger. Musically, we crank some Gwar, Repulsion, Uniform Choice, Black Flag, Living Death, C.O.C., Thrust, Piledriver, Messiah, Axewitch, Axekiller, Inhuman Condition, Sharptooth and Knoll. Horns Up!

Episode 773 - And The Nominees Are...
Friday Feb 16, 2024
Friday Feb 16, 2024
It's that time again. The nominees for this year's Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame have been announced. This list always to seem raise both the eyebrows and ire of music fans. Its an ongoing debate whether The Hall should still be monickered "Rock n Roll" because of the inclusion of other genres. But every list has enough meat on the bone to warrant discussion. We dissect the list and make our top picks. *Spoiler* Ozzy is our Man. D'uh!! In our "News, Views and Tunes", we discuss some Rush and Spider Punk! Musically, we crank some new + used from Hirax, the real Slaughter, Matt Harvey (Exhumed, Gruesome), Blade Runner, Night Fever, and we introduce Pessimystic in our "Indie Spotlight".
Horns Up!!
