Radioactive Metal

Progressive NY death metallers UNCURED are a unique story. Generally our Creature Feature segments are reserved for established veterans on reputable labels with larger followings. Uncured though are unsigned and basically doing it D.I.Y. One just would never know it. With their extensive touring and promotion, they appear to be the blueprint of a big label's promotions.  Three quarters of the line up are barely into their 20s but accented by veteran DIECAST bassist Jon Kita! So when Uncured came through town recently supporting the mighty SOULFLY we had to get the 411. We discussed the excellent "Medusa" record, the band's unique (lineup) make up, and their awesome work ethic. In our News, Views, and Tunes, we have some interesting "nun" talk and say "Thanx" to A389 Recordings! Musically, we crank the wicked Uncured album, some HOMEWRECKER, and classic Diecast! Horns! Obviously, with an outfit like Season Of Mist recording artists PHILIP H. ANSELMO and THE ILLEGALS, the groups namesake and frontman will be the one garnering the most press attention. But each group can have 3, 4, 5 other members and each have their own unique story to tell. With P.H.A. and The Illegals, axeman Stephen Taylor is such a member. With the new record "Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue" getting major play in RAM offices, we had to get an Illegal on the horn. Mr. Taylor picked up. We discussed the origins of the band, his relationship with Anselmo, and a special meaning behind the monicker. Next time, Phil. In our News, Views, and Tunes, we go over the tix prices for the just announced METALLICA tour and crank some Illegals, NITA STRAUSS, and some classic ATHEIST! Horns!! The mighty Metal Blade Records seems to be spreading their musical wings recently. Having been a major Metal player for literally decades, they seem to be trying to get their foot in the hardcore world door too. First, they released the brilliant new HARMS WAY album and now they're readying the new TWITCHING TONGUES album. We got psyched by their Blade signing and with record #2 "Gaining Purpose Through Passionate Hatred", we finally sat down with vox Colin Young. With everything going on, we had more than enough to keep our tongues twitching. We discuss TT's new(ish) home with Metal Blade, their metal crossover potiential, and his bandmates side projects. In our News, Views, and Tunes, we put over Olympic figure skater Ivett Toth and get blown away by ANTHRAX on the live front! Musically, we crank the new Tongues, SCUMPULSE, and Anthrax! Horns!! Veteran metallers will remember NAILBOMB. They were a short lived, blistering project of then SEPULTURA/current SOULFLY mainman Max Cavalera and FUDGE TUNNEL's Alex Newport. This diabolical duo unleashed their killer debut "Point Blank" in '94. In 2018, Mr. Cavalera seems to be bitten by the 'Bomb bug again and Nailbomb is back! Max's main band Soulfly is about to hit the road paying tribute to that classic debut. So this is an opportune time to get Max back on the show to discuss the 'da Bomb. We discuss the Nailbomb project and tour, the possibility of a NB reunion, and the whereabouts of Mr. Newport. The countdown to an awesome tour starts here. Oh yeah... Nailed it!! In our News, Views, and Tunes, we give major props to Glen Tipton and ETID's Andy Williams. Musically we crank CAVALERA CONSPIRACY and cool new tunes from NECROPHOBIC and SCORCHED! Horns!! We love us some death/doom around here. Floridian metallers DRUID LORD have been on our radar for sometime now, so it was just a matter of time before we got a DLer on the RAM hotseat. Founding member Pete Slate has a metal resume dating back decades now. He's still waving the underground Metal flag with his latest record "Grotesque Offerings", available now from Hell's Headbangers Records!! We talk about the new album and single, their arrival at HH, and get into his days with the legendary ACHERON! In our News, Views, and Tunes, we review the new ANTHRAX DVD, get stoked over "Cliff Burton Day", and give our two-cents on the CANNIBAL CORPSE lawsuit. Musically, we crank new tunes from DL, AFGRUND, and VISIGOTH! Horns!! Don't judge a book by it's cover because Rich Bocchini is more metal than you! He's the voice of MLW, Fest Wrestling, DEFY, Wrestle Circus and has two podcasts, the MLW flagship show and The JJ Dillon Show. Whew... we thought WE were busy! You may also remember him from his time in WWE as "Rich Brennan" on NXT and Smackdown. Rich is a metalhead through and through, being a fan since he was a kid and playing in bands for years. We have a fun chat about metal in general and dive into the old scene in Providence, RI (where he grew up). We also discuss past concerts he attended, "metal" gimmicks in wrestling, legitimate metalhead wrestlers, and a story about GENE SIMMONS at the airport. In our News, Views, and Tunes, we talk about the Gene Simmons Vault Experience and something that's literally "heavy metal". Musically, we crank WARGASM (Rich's request), HOODED MENACE, and KILGORE. In 2017, Radioactive Metal was fortunate enough to interview a Who's Who in the extreme Metal Underground. The backbone that put a handful of these artists on the map (MIDNIGHT, NUNSLAUGHTER) is the mighty Hells Headbangers record label. We've been supporting the HH label for years now. They put out some awesome tunes but the why's and wherefores behind HH are just as fascinating. Hells Headbangers is a total DIY, family run business headed up by the Horval Brothers: Eric, Chase, and this episode's interview, Justin. We get into the origins of HH, their roster of artists, and his involvement as the voice of HH. We also get to know a bit about the the man away from the HH offices. Remember, "When You Need Metal... Go To Hell!" In our News, Views, and Tunes, we fanboy over the "final" SLAYER tour and crank the new VOIDHANGER, SKELETHAL, and the immortal IMPIETY! Horns!! Hardcore rockers HARM'S WAY are making huge strides forward in their career. Predominantly a hardcore band, they have been top tier talent in that scene. We've been following the band from the get-go and had them on the show while they were promoting their last record. It was a pleasant surprise to this old school metaller to see HW sign-on with Metal Blade Records. We were fully expecting to speak with usual spokesman, drummer Chris Mills, but we were stoked when vox James Pligge picked up the phone. We push the new "Posthuman" album, their new spot on Metal Blade, and his straight edge and athletic lifestyle. James also tells us a cool story about a prominent culinary figure nudging the band towards Brian Slagel. In our News, Views, and Tunes, we address the Catanese situation and get excited over the word "Metal" becoming a Merriam-Webster adjective! Musically we crank the new HW, tech deathsters SUNLESS, and METAL CHURCH. Horns!! Sometimes, we swear there is no Metal Gods! If there was, then Cleveland thrash veterans DESTRUCTOR would be spoke in the same breath as some of their better known contemporaries. Dating back to the mid 80s, Destructor has persevered through tumultuous industry changes and personal tragedies. Vocalist/axeman Dave Overkill saw it all and still retains the faith to this day. We finally sat down with Mr. Overkill in a long overdue interview, chatting about the amazing "Decibal Casualties" record and their relationship with Pure Steel Records. And most interesting to fans today,  we chat about Athenar's (MIDNIGHT) time in the band. In our News, Views, and Tunes, we weigh in on the DECAPITATED "verdict" and pay tribute to not one, not two, not three, but four (!!) fallen comrades. Musically, we crank the latest Destructor, GATECREEPER and some classic FASTWAY. Horns! Many times over the years, we stated we're always on the lookout for unique subjects for our interviews. Band interviews are awesome, but our beloved genre also produces so many other talented and creative people. Allow us to introduce the black metal themed java, TRVE KVLT COFFEE! When this damn good brutal brew struck our taste buds, we knew we were onto something to get behind. So we got brewmaster Kaffee Bean Økvlta on the horn and had a cool chat over a hot kup of TKC. We discussed the idea/concept of a black metal coffee and its market potiential. Of course, the conversation inevitably turned to Mr. Økvlta's interest in black metal itself. So conjure up a pot of your new fave brew and enjoy! In our News, Views, and Tunes, we shovel our way out of trouble and crank some VENOM, PHYLACTERY, and ZAO! Horns!!
