Radioactive Metal

Preparing for this week's Creature Feature proved to be a formidable task. If the name Vanessa Nocera doesn't ring an immediate bell, after our chat, you'll ask yourself why. Mrs. Nocera has been tearing it up in the black/death underground for a number years with a slew of amazing bands, thus the daunting task of covering her illustrious career. Her latest outfit CAULDRON BURIAL has a new album coming out soon. She's most noted for her Hell's Headbangers project VAULTWRAITH, and SURGIKILL is her band with none other than Stevo of the legendary IMPETIGO. Not to mention being behind "Evilspeak" horror mag and Razorback Records. Whew!! And what have you been doing with your life? In our News, Views, and Tunes, we talk the amazing W.A.S.P. debut and pay tribute to Jill Janus and Randy Rampage. Musically, we crank Vanessa's Cauldron Burial and Vaultwraith plus the new SATAN, RETORTION TERROR, and HUNTRESS. Horns!    Give us a call! 321-80-HEAVY (321-804-3289) E-mail us at radmetal666@gmail.com or info@radioactivemetal.org This episode is brought to you by Audible. This week we found a bright, shiny diamond in the rough. Canadian tech deathsters Archspire recently came through town. Sharing the stage was newly signed Season of Mist label mate SARAH LONGFIELD. To the uninitiated, Miss Longfield made her mark as a YouTube vlogger, showcasing her amazing skill as a prog guitarist with a huge love of Metal. Now with the mighty Mist behind her, this venomous virtuoso is ready to conquer the world! We pick her brain and get into all the whys, whens, hows, particularly being Season's sore thumb. In our News, Views, and Tunes, we discuss how age is truly just a number. Musically, we showcase Miss Longfield's diversity and get a bit "hairy" with WOLF KING, WOLFBLOOD, and DEE F'N SNIDER! Horns!! Canadian deathcore thrashers DEPTHS OF HATRED have been on our radar for a number of years now. Still a relatively unknown entity, they've been flogging it out in the metal underground since 2010. They produced a string of killer indie releases and now have taken that next step toward Metal domination. The fine folks at Prosthetic Records recently picked them up and the result was the cool, new "Bloodguilt" release. We caught up with DOH on their recent stop in town supporting the mighty HIDEOUS DIVINITY. Axeman Martin Trottier and newly acquired vocalist Nico Monette were eager to chat about this big step, some of their past, and the current Montreal metal scene. In our News, Views, and Tunes, we discuss sucking it up for the scene and we establish being "established" in underground Metal. Musically, we crank the DOH record, label mates LEECHED, ARCHSPIRE, and the new ATROCITY!! Horns To That! Italian death metallers HIDEOUS DIVINITY are having a banner year. Their killer third Unique Leader recording "Adveniens" has been an underground fave. They've taken their brutality on the road, crossing our great nation for the first time, giving us the opportunity for a long overdue chat. We caught up with vokillist Enrico "H" DiLorenzo. Apart from the awesomeness that is HD, the most interesting part of the DiLorenzo story is his real world chosen profession: he's a medical physician. A throat doctor no less!! A cool irony we had to delve further into (Umm, and no "deep throat" jokes plz). As well, we spoke about the said latest album, their cool monicker, and just what the H the "H" stands for! In our News, Views, and Tunes, we report our recent activities on the live front and pay tribute to a fallen legend. Musically, we crank the latest HD, some old school SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, DEATHGRAVE, and MANILLA ROAD. Horns!! What has Agathocles wrought??!! The aggressive music underground has many sub-genres. Each of these has the potential to produce to their own sub-sub-genre. All it takes is the right band at the right moment with enough influence and they can kickstart the whole she-bang. Welcome to Mincecore! Oakland's HAGGUS took the Agathocles/mincecore blueprint, gorified it up a bit, and ran with it. Now, the power trio of putridity is at the forefront of the mincecore  sub-sub-genre. We caught up with axe/vox Hambone after a recent basement gig. Minus the black mask (no pics, we play up the gimmick here), we had a quick chat about their debut full-lengther, their unique gigs, and what exactly is mincecore is. Also, we're thrilled that RAM social media dude Will Mercier ("Big Willy" to us) came out from hiding and joined the fun for this week's News, Views, and Tunes. We discussed metal related pro wrasslin', our experiences with the aforementioned basement shows, and all our happenings on the live front. Musically, we crank the new Haggus, classic ABSCESS, and the new HOODED MENACE. Whew! Horns to a packed show. This week's "Creature Feature" is another chat that's been a long time coming. US tech deathsters RIVERS OF NIHIL are total road warriors. They've graced our presence numerous times. But only now have we been able to sit down with them and get the scoop. Axeman Brody Uttley is one dedicated sonuvagun. Since entering the music biz, RON has been his sole focus. It's paid off big time with the brilliance of the band's new killer record "Where Owls Know My Name". We discuss signing on with Metal Blade, their cool monicker, and some other well known "Uttley's". In our News,Views, and Tunes, we get into cool stuff on the live front, cool new tunes, and we pay tribute to a FL death metal original. Musically, we crank the RON record, new stuff from SIX FEET UNDER and SVEN GALI, SISTERS OF SUFFOCATION, and MALEVOLENT CREATION. Horns!! There's two sides to every story, two sides to every coin. A couple of years back, we had a cool chat with Adam, the vocalist of Canadian hardcore band WITHDRAWAL. The band's Escapist Records debut "Never" was ready to drop and we spoke of his committment to straight edge. Fast forward to present day and we now sit down with his brother Joel and bassist Mike on the mean streets of Winnipeg. We had a very entertaining chat discussing said record, being (not so) straight edge, meeting Degrassi (!) cast members and some road stories that probably shouldnt be repeated. Good times! In our News, Views, and Tunes, we crank the latest Withdrawal, the new SKELETONWITCH and CLITERATI, and that awesome VOLTANG band we've been putting over! Horns!! This was one of those happy accidents. This episode was recorded just days before July 1st (aka Canada Day). It just so happened that we had a Canadian legend waiting in the wings... Murray The Cretin of the legendary punk rockers DAYGLO ABORTIONS!! Murray has proven to be the kind of guy that definitely has something to say. What was suppose to be a "quick chat" went into a few extra innings once Mr. Cretin got warmed up. We spoke of everything in the DayGlo camp and the state of the world at large. In our News, Views, and Tunes, we get a first hand reminder of "fangirling". Musically, we crank some classic DayGlos, new WOLVHAMMER and SLAPSHOT, and some SEBASTIAN BACH. Horns! Far and away, our most frequent guest over the years has been veteran metaller Matt Harvey. Putting aside that he's a helluva guy and has become a good friend of the show, his multiple inclusions are justified as he's seemingly the busiest dude in Metal. He has cemented his status with the mighty Exhumed, his Expulsion project wowed the underground, and his most recent release is the ultra awesome album "Twisted Prayers" by DEATH-worshippers GRUESOME. We got on the horn with Matt to discuss the new album, the "supergroup" concept, and working with James Murphy!! In our News, Views, and Tunes, we pay tribute to Vinnie Paul and share our first hand account on the latest in the Micheal Keene (THE FACELESS) saga. Musically, we crank the new Gruesome, ANGELMAKER, LEDGE, and some appropriate PANTERA. Horns! When we got tapped to speak to US hard rockers GODSMACK, we got excited. We thought "Yeah, it'll be cool to talk to Sully." But when we were informed we'd be speaking with skinsman Shannon Larkin, we got really excited!! Our interest in Mr. Larkin's work goes way back to the early days of WRATHCHILD AMERICA. We followed him through his stints in UGLY KID JOE and AMEN and now right up to his current tenure with Godsmack. So we had a myriad of questions covering all those subjects, as well as the success of their latest record "When Legends Rise" and the bands interest in pro wrasslin'. We sensed a genuine enthusiasm on his part in discussing these. That's why RAM rules! In our News, Tunes, and Views, we discuss the "final" Slayer tour that recently came through town. We dive deep into the festivities. We discuss the highs and lows, line up order, set times, and a bit of tailgating. Musically, we crank some of Mr. Larkin's notables, BRUJERIA, and some classic OBITUARY! Horns!
