Heavy Metallers are a more discerning group of music lovers. Of course its the awesome tunes that count. But Metalheads appreciate the complete package. Now with the rebirth of the mighty vinyl, packaging and presentation is once again an important part of the musical Metal journey. Obviously the first thing that comes to mind is the album cover. While a lot of sub par genres like pop and country are content with a boring band pic, Heavy Metal has a rich history of beautiful artwork. A lot of the time this artwork becomes synonymous with the band itself. This week we sit down with some Lemmys and share our lists of the most Iconic album covers of the genre's illustrious history. We go into extra innings but we guarantee you'll be thinking of RAM the next time your in the music shop. Oregon slude doomsters Lord Dying are on the verge of big things. The band is currently tearing it up on tour supporting their latest record. "Mysterium Tremendum" is that all important Album #3 and marks their eOne debut. Their stop in our neck of the woods was a great time to speak with them. We quickly got reacquainted with ax/vox Erik Olsen. We got into the new album and some highlights of their relatively young career. In our "News, Views, and Tunes', we go off on the varg YouTube channel issue and the "straight pride" parade in Boston. The Maryland Deathfest is now in the books. A good time was had by all enjoying an amazing weekend of some of the best tunes to be had anywhere. Radioactive Metal had our own contingency there as well. Coreen took her trusty camera and took in the sights and sounds. So consider this our MDF post game show! Basically we sat down and she shares with Metaldom her amazing weekend. The rock n roll world is all abuzz. Recently Slash himself announced that the reunited trio of Axl, Duff and himself have begun working on new material. Finding ourselves in the previously unknown territory of not having a "Creature Feature" for the second week in a row, we decided it would be a good time to discus the idea of new GnR tunage. Are we excited? Curious? Even care? How will the rest of Metaldom react to new music? Everybody already has strong opinions about the outfit's recorded output. Especially the more controversial songs. A handful of songs garnered a lot negative press and stirred up the shite'. So we took the time to dissect those illustrious songs. Another great episode filled by passion and alcohol!! With seemingly every band either travelling to and/or playing the Maryland Deathfest we found ourselves without a "Creature Feature" this week. No pro-blem-o. Better late than never. Canadian metallic noise rockers KEN Mode have obviously been on our radar from the get go. The Season Of Mist recording artists are an established, internationally renowned touting outfit. But they're also hometown heroes only now finally getting their spot on the "Creature Feature" hotseat. Crossover thrashers Power Trip seem forged especially for RAM. 65% Metal. 35% Hardcore. 5% pro wrasslin'. Right before the Trippers hit the road they took the time to headline the Manitoba Metalfest giving us the opportunity for a long overdue chat. Vox/mainman Riley Gale was eager to talk record 2.5 (??) "Opening Fire 2008 -2014", their SOLD OUT (!!) Decibel cover, and the band's musical involvement with the WWE. On 4/20 no less. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we go over the Lamb Of God stolen axe incident, the Cro Mags lawsuit sitch, and producer Rick Rubin's controversial "Slayer/black metal" statement. The irony isn't lost on us. The latest album from extreme metallers Origin is a rather unique release. Before the band started tearing it up in the underground they had their humble beginnings. Now years later, Agonia Records is re - presenting those days in the form of "Abio-genesis - Coming Into Existence". Origin's musical origin. Although those days certainly belonged to axeman Paul Ryan, we had the opportunity to get vokillist Jason Keyser's take on the sitch. Veteran Italian symphonic extreme metallers Fleshgod Apocalypse have established themselves an artististic reputation for both their amazing discography and awesome live show.
