If nothing else 2020 has been a banner year for Canadian death metal trio VOTOV. In one some way, shape or form, we've been following these hometown heroes for some three decades. Now the pay off is upon us. The band just dropped their label debut album "I.X.X.I." Courtesy of the fine folks at CDN Records. So now in a long over due "Creature Feature", we caught up with the guys at the Fiery Gates Ov Hell!! Ok, it was their rehearsal space. Chuck LaBossiere (axe/vox), John Duke (bass) and skinsman Derek Kroll let us in on the whys and wherefore of said album, their unique monicker, and we discussed making Heavy Metal history!! Right now, Tank Crimes recording artists Necrot are most deserved darlings in the Metal underground. The new album "Mortal" is set to drop and is already all the buzz. These Oakland bashers are no strangers to the RAM offices though. We've been hyping them from the get go, pushing their last record with main man Luca Indrio. This time 'round though we tapped drummer Chad Gailey. Not only for his brilliance on said record, but we've been luvin' his other projects Mortuous and Vastum as well. So we got Mr. Gailey on the horn and he gave was the 411 on all things Necrot. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we discuss Metallica at the drive inn (!) and sign a petition for 1cent per stream pay outs from Spotify. With the world in upheaval right now, a lot of people might just be ready to throw in the 2020 towel. It may say "Metal" on the marquee, but we've never shied away from covering all genres of heavy music. Punk rock legends Dead Kennedys are an outfit we practically grew up with. Upon their demise, Jello Biafra remained on our radars thru his spoken word performances. But admittedly, the rest of our "Fab Four" kind of fell off our radars. Until now. We had the golden opportunity to speak with DKs axeman East Bay Ray as his new(ish) project The Killer Smiles recently dropped their latest record. Another "Bucket List" moment as we discussed KS' album "Raising The Stakes", the differences between his projects, and Mr. Ray shows he still has the punk rock spirit. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we crank some killer tunes from said Smiles, Messiah, Thundermother, and of course some classic DKs. Despite a number of pokers in the interview fires, we decided to forego all in favor of acknowledging a very important rock n roll milestone. As we sat down and pressed "record", one of the most influential records for any genre celebrated it's anniversary. AC/DC's "Back in Black" turned the Big 4-0. So now's the time to go over this monumental album discussing our own personal whys and wherefores, sharing our memories revolving around it and throwing out some cool trivia. No matter how "kvlt" or underground you are, admit it, you had/have a copy. We weren't totally without an interview though. We had a quick "Sidestage" interview with Winnipeg skate punks Six Outta Ten in our "Indie Spotlight". No "Creature Feature" = no pro-blem-o! We may not have an interview subject to grill, but there's still plenty of meat on this week's bone to gnaw on. First off, we compare and contrast the handling of this covid crisis at live shows in the US (Great White) compared to Switzerland (Destruction). Also, twitter has been all the rage in the Metal World as we go over the recent Chris Jericho/Sebastian Bach debacle. As well, we go over why trapt had abysmal first week sales. The story of Chicago rockers High Spirits is kind of unique. Led by the amazing Professor Black, the outfit doesn't even really consider themselves Metal. They have their own self coined description of "high energy rock". But they actually came to the attention of the underground via Hell's Headbangers (??!!). So if they come recommended by the good folks at HH, then we've got to check 'em out. Bonus that their new record "Hard To Stop" courtesy of High Roller Records just dropped as well. So we sat down with the Good Professor to discuss the new album, working with Hell's, and his incredible three album and two EP 2018. We first discovered NWOBHMers Cloven Hoof as young 'uns going Metal full time. The Hoof's monicker and imagery convinced us to grab their '84 debut sound unheard. W've been HoofHeads ever since. With their latest album "Age Of Steel" dropping among the chaos, it was a opportune time to get main Hoofman Lee Payne on the horn. We discussed the new record, their spot in British metal history, and he shares the strange occurrences recording the aforementioned debut. Eerie stuff! Another long overdue "Bucket List" interview. When death metal veterans Insatanity announced their comeback full lengther "Hymns Of The Gods Before", we got excited. When it was announced they signed onto good friends of the show CDN Records for it, we were thrilled. When we managed to get bass/vox Chris Lyle on the horn, we went delirious! During our chat with Mr. Lytle we discussed the aforementioned record as it was hitting the racks at that very moment. As well we discussed landing on CDN, the band's glorious Unisound daze, and he introduced the killer new line up!! It was insatane!!
