Finnish sensations AMORPHIS have an incredible legacy. Making their own mark on the early 90s death metal scene, they’ve evolved and progressed over the years to artists that are hard to pigeonhole. With a discography on the other side of a dozen, they’ve also seen more of the world’s roads than most. Except for Highway #1, which crosses across Canada. So finally, they made their way thru town giving us an opportunity that was a long time coming. Axeman Tomi Koivusaari was there from the beginning. We discuss the early death days to their latest masterpiece Under The Red Cloud, all showing the evolution of a band and the secrets to their success. In our News, Views, and Tunes, we go over all our activity on the live front and go over some highly anticipated releases. Musically, we crank a shit ton of Amorphis, NECROPHOBIC, KISSING CANDICE, CHILDREN OF BODOM and we introduce Germany’s BULLETRAIL in our Indie Spotlight! Horns!!
For us, the wonderful world of pro-wrestling is not just a guilty pleasure. We’ve never hidden our joy of the square circle on this show. When you look beyond the grunts and body slams, the similarities between pro-wrestling and our beloved genre get more and more apparent. Both have a tendency of catering to similar audiences and are generally maligned by society as a whole. The artists and wrestlers live similar lifestyles and face the same challenges. With Wrestlemania having recently passed through our backyard, we found ourselves in wrestling overload. We fiund this to be a good time to cover the mat world. We discuss the strong connection between Metal and wrestling and the how’s and where’s we discovered our beloved sport. As it turns out, Canadian metal legends ANVIL are also pro-wrestling “marks”. Right before the Wrestlemania chaos, the boys made their way through town and gave us a moment of their time. So while the likes of MOTÖRHEAD have played a role in wrasslin’ over the years, the Metal underground is full of tunes and characters dedicated to the craft. Musically, we crank new and classic Anvil, NASTY SAVAGE, ANTISEEN, INCENDIARY, VEXTEMPER, EAT THE TURNBUCKLE (!) and the mighty PILEDRIVER (!!). And the winner is… everyone one that tunes in! Horns Up!
The Big 4-5-0! Not a traditional milestone but definitely one to acknowledge. Around the RAM offices, we like to do that by setting our loyal Beautiful MFers up with a top draw Creature Feature. In the extreme metal underground, Kevin Sharp needs no introduction. Mr. Sharp burst onto the scene in the early 90s with the brilliant BRUTAL TRUTH debut. Since then, he’s built an amazing legacy leading up to his current project. Grinders LOCK UP have a new record, a new label, and Sharp completes the trilogy as the new voice vox. We discuss the new Demonization record, their new spot on Listenable Records, and even reminisce about a shared memory. We only really scratched the surface. In our News, Views, and Tunes, we discuss Metal in the movies and wwwaaayyy too much Power Rangers! Musically we crank Kev’s Lock Up and Brutal Truth, ABOMINATOR, STRIFE, and ROLLINS BAND. Horns!!
No Creature Feature? No problem! With so much going on in the Metal world, we ended up going into extra innings over some brewskis and cool tunes, just like any good Friday. We talk about Aaron’s beer, SLAYER playing Dawson’s Creek, more of Aaron’s beer, the new Sunrise Records store chain, Aaron’s beer, WEEDEATER plays 4/20, and Aaron’s beer again. All to a cool soundtrack featuring IMMOLATION, SIX FEET UNDER, HAEMORRHAGE, EMBALMER, DEATHWISH, FUCK YOU PAY ME, BEAR MACE, and TUMOURBOY! Horns (and beers) Up!!
So far, this year’s Creature Features have been an awesome mix of classic, legendary artists coupled with some extreme outfits currently ruling the underground roost. Devil metal rockers NUNSLAUGHTER actually fits in both categories as they go back to the 80s demo trading heyday. In 2017, they continue to make an impact as one of Hell’s Headbangers top guns. Through all this time, vox/mainman Don of the Dead has been literally front and centre. In another long overdue chat, we discuss their controversial moniker (they just missed some PMRC love), their eight hundred million record discography, and the threat of new material. In our News, Views and Tunes, we go over rare SAVATAGE autographs, Lady GaGa’s ass, and crank some Nunslaughter, POWER TRIP, and AZARATH! Finally, looking to impress Mr. Of the Dead with some home grown talent, we have a quick chat with Winnipeg death/horror/D-beat thrashers ZOMBIE ASSAULT in our Extended Indie Spotlight. Horns!!
