Episode 398: What If?

We admit it. 66.6% of us are kinda nerdy, especially when it comes to comic books. Growing up, we enjoyed one classic series called What If? The title explored what would happen if an event in the Marvel Universe never happened or something else happened in it’s place. It explored what were the ramifications of this alternate event and the story behind it. The world of Heavy Metal has had its own events that have shaped the genre’s landscape that we see today. So what if said event never happened? What if Cliff Burton never left us. What if grunge never took off. What if there was no VENOM? We have an interesting and entertaining discussion regarding our predictions of this alternate realm. In our News, Views, and Tunes, we goober a recent KORN tribute show and crank some Venom, ANVIL, SATYRICON, POWER FROM HELL and LA’s DESECRATE in our Indie Spotlight. Horns Up!!

Episode 397: Stirring The Pot

Last week’s episode was pretty heavy duty. Fortunately this week, the Metal world wasn’t hit with a barrage of tragedies and controversies. Canadian classic metallers CAULDRON are no strangers to our show. This T.O. power trio is an original RAM discovery and we’ve followed their career quite closely. In town supporting the mighty ENFORCER, main man Jason Decay was sicker than a dog but still gave us a moment of his time. Being the road dog that he is, he went on stage and tore it up like he was headlining Wacken. What a trooper! Bruce Dickinson would be proud! (Note: the interview was conducted just days before their van accident). In our News, Views and Tunes, we debut our new Yik Yak segment, we go over the lineups of some announced festivals, and finally we acknowledge Valentine’s Day with some cool tunes from DECEASED, ALICE COOPER, MAGRUDERGRIND, WITCHKILLER, the new Cauldron, and introduce Colorado’s HELLEBORUS in our Indie Spotlight. Horns!

Episode 396: Heavy Duty

For the most part, heavy metal is fun. For the most part, we try to reflect that spirit on RAM. But sometimes the real world slithers it’s way into this fun world and brings the party to a grinding (and not the good kind) halt. Recently a rash of untimely deaths and the recent Phil Anselmo sitch sparked some heavy duty conversations about suicide, drug addiction, and racism. It rained but didn’t pour… entirely at least. Swedish old school metallers ENFORCER recently came through town and axe/vox Olaf Wikstrand gave us a moment of his time. We discussed their latest metal masterpiece From Beyond, touring with like minded metallers, and we test his knowledge of other “enforcers”. In our News, views, and Tunes, we pay tribute to our fallen comrades and crank the latest Enforcer, some THRUST, and AVENGER. Horns Up!!

Episode 395: Not Just a Cartoonist

It’s right there in the name: We love METAL! But we also have many other interests, so longtime listeners know that we’re also geeks. We recently befriended cartoonist GISELE LAGACE and after chatting with her online about all sorts of stuff, we found out that she had a rock music career in the early 90s. We invited her to talk about her old band BARBARELLA and her current career as a premiere cartoonist. Fans of her online strip Menage a 3 will discover new things about Gisele, and our listeners will discover a band that they probably missed out on. We also talk about having similar life experiences, visiting the old Rock En Stock store in Montreal, the metal legends she befriended back in the day, her work for Archie Comics, and an upcoming project that everyone will love (Hey! Ho! Let’s go!). In the music department, we play some Barbarella, FASTER PUSSYCAT, and KISS. Horns Up!
