Episode 364: Sepultura!!!

Check another one off our Creature Feature bucket list. The mighty SEPULTURA are living legends still going strong and regularly pounding out great new tunes. They command concert stages the world over long after lesser bands have called it a day. The latter half of the storied Sepultura story may polarize fans but there’s no denying these devils their due. We’re absolutely stoked to present our chat with Sepulmastermind Andreas Kisser! We had a fantastic chat (not once having to resort to mentioning any past members) discussing the band’s early years, the idea behind the latest record, and playing football with Steve Harris. Hey! Future Grandkids! We had Sepultura on the show! In our News, Views, and Tunes, we discuss the recently announced Summer Slaughter line up, have an interesting discussion about “slut metal”, and introduce Canadian bashers SHARK INFESTED DAUGHTERS (best monicker ever!) in our Indie Spotlight. Horns!

Episode 363: We Kam A Lot

When thinking about Heavy Metal in Florida during the early 90s, nobody would blame you if Death Metal immediately came to mind. The Sunshine State wasn’t all growls and blast beats though. A young Thomas Youngblood was lying the groundwork for a career in Power Metal, a career that would play second Flying V to no one. With KAMELOT having just released their eleventh masterpiece, Haven, we caught up with Mr. Youngblood. We discuss the state of the game, why he’s not a corpsegrinder, and what exactly is up with the “K”. It might confuse King Artie but it makes sense to us. In our News, Views, and Tunes, we discuss the whole VIP thing, Coreen’s encounter with producer Jason Suecof, and we drop the ball on the SEX PISTOLS. Musically, we crank the Haven record, new tunes from SKINLESS, VILLAINS, COAL CHAMBER, and introduce Florida deathsters MINDSCAR in our Indie Spotlight. Horns Up!!

Episode 362: Album Autopsy – Slaughter’s Stick It To Ya 25th Anniversary

Twenty-five years ago, one of hard rock’s most exciting albums was released to great fanfare. Selling over 2 million copies, SLAUGHTER‘s Stick It To Ya was loaded with hits, scoring three songs in the Top 40. We invited Mark Slaughter himself to help us celebrate its silver anniversary by answering all our fanboy questions in this exclusive Album Autopsy episode. He tells us all about the formation of the band, how they got their recording contract, how the album name was selected, and he shares the story of why “Fly To The Angels” was written. One of the coolest stories he shares is about the car he owned at the time… a true piece of Rock N’ Roll history (RR/OO). And if that wasn’t enough, we ask him a question he has NEVER been asked before in 25 years! While we’re at it, we also dive into the current happenings with Slaughter and talk about the release of his very first solo album Reflections In A Rear View Mirror. Horns Up!

Episode 361: Staxx of Waxx

It was kind of a boring evening. Not much going on, just the two biggest Metalheads on the planet hanging out. So of course, the conversation stirred toward our beloved genre. Being old schoolers, we openly dissected our record collections with some inspiration from some of the current Metal rags. We discussed out first records, favorite cruisin’ tunes, high school memories, guilty pleasures, and the first record we really put to the test with that special someone. We gotta crank some tunes as well including AUTOPSY, RAZOR, METAL CHURCH, D.R.I., SALIVA, SHREDHEAD, and BLACKWITCH PUDDING. Joining us for a quick chat is Winnipeg metallers SPEED DEMON in our extended Indie Spotlight. So sit back, grab a cold one, and Rock On !! Horns!

Episode 360: The Tales We Wove

The story of vocalist Shane Blay is something right out of a Mark Wahlberg movie. Plucked from relative obscurity (OH, SLEEPER) to centerstage for an act who, for all intents and purposes, had the attention of fans and media the world over. Mr. Blay is in an unenviable position but it’s also a position that any vocalist would step on their mother for. His group WOVENWAR released a killer debut and is killing it on the road. So of course, we have to pick his brain about everything. We discuss the pressures of his position, the meaning of the monicker, and we go the whole chat without mentioning what’s-his-name. In our News, Views, and Tunes, we push the new RAVEN, get a little nostalgic, give our two cents on VENOM INC., and introduce Kentucky deathsters CRYPTIC HYMN in our Indie Spotlight. Horns!!
