Episode 592: One Big Fix
Friday Feb 07, 2020
Friday Feb 07, 2020
Simple enough this week. We found ourselves looking to take the week off. It gave us a long over due chance to kick back, pour some Lemmys, and just talk Metalshop. All in between a Fistful of Metal. Something we'd be doing tonight anyway so we might as well press "record". We recall our amazing night of punk rock and skateboarding at the Scam Jam 6 festival. As all we pay tribute to ex-D.R.I.er Josh Pappe (Rest In Power) and address our recent rash of dick pics on snapchat!! All to a most wicked soundtrack including Anvil, God Dethroned, Haunt, Wake, Cianide, Wombbath, Torpedo, D.R.I., JFA, D.B.S., and Slave One!! Horns!!

Episode 591: One Helluva Week!!
Friday Jan 31, 2020
Friday Jan 31, 2020
Since the 2020 tours have yet to really kick in, we find ourselves "Creature Feature"less again this week. But the timing is good because we find ourselves with a metric shit ton of stuff to talk about. Not to mention we have all Four Horsemen Of The Apodcalypse armed and ready. We discuss the recent Aerosmith saga, dress codes at gigs (??!!), and we paid tribute to the insane amount of fallen brethren we lost this past week. But we're not totally guest less. We had a quick, cool chat with Kayla "KK" Wilding, the vox of Winnipeg punkers Shit Happens. She was displaying her artistic talents at the recent "Bad Ass Babes In Bands and Bad As Babes With Brushes" festival. Musically, we crank the new Midnight, Cynic, and some classic stuff from C.O.C., Warzone and Dead Kennedys! So pour a Lemmy and rock out with us. Horns!

Episode 590: A Show of Fans - Band Spotlight feat. Rush
Friday Jan 24, 2020
Friday Jan 24, 2020
The music world mourned the recent passing of the legendary Neil Peart. For decades the rabid fanbase of the almighty Rush spanned not only rock fans in general but included 80s normies to death metallers and punks of today. Now is the time to properly pay tribute to the Canadian wonder boys with a traditional Spotlight episode. To help us we've enlisted the expertise of one Mark Buell. Mr. Buell is the Regional Bureau Director for the North American Internet Society. More importantly, he's been a good friend of ours since we were a mere 8 yrs old. Even more importantly, he's been a Rush aficionado for four decades!! So we're stoked to discuss all things Rush including the legacy of Mr. Peart, all our faves in the Rush discog and their illustrious career in general. We just wish it was under better circumstances. Around here Rush will always be the Rush of the music world.

Episode 589: The 2019 Rammy Awards
Friday Jan 17, 2020
Friday Jan 17, 2020
It's that time again! 2019 is officially in the books. So now its time to look back, laugh, and reflect. Here at RAM it's tradition to do so with our annual Rammy Awards. Heavy Metal fans have little regard for award shows (esp. after the '88 Jethro Tull debacle). Our beloved music is generally poorly received and not given it's due respect. This year end award show is Guaran - damn -teed to give the Devil it's due. Basically, the Rammies (Radio Active Metal...RAM...RAMmy...we're so clever) is when we sit down with some bevvies and share some of our faves of 2019 in the key categories that mean the most to Metalheads. Categories like Artist, Album, Song, Live, and, of course, our Hall of Fame inductees. So grab a celebratory cold one of your own and enjoy the year that was thru our twisted eyes and ears. Horns!!

Episode 588: Gnarly News and Notes - 2019 News and Gnar Gnars interview
Friday Jan 10, 2020
Friday Jan 10, 2020
Radioactive Metal prides itself on our extensive coverage of our beloved genre 24/7/365. But sometimes with all that goes on in Metaldom somethings are bound to not make it into our offices. So this week in lieu of our usual "Creature Feature" we're going to take the time to right some wrongs. There were a few news and notes that we feel we never gave our just attention to. More importantly, there were some instances where we lost some of our Metal brethren and the proper tribute wasn't paid to. So as opposed to a "Best Of.." - type show, we decided to cap off 2019 by putting this pretty bullet belt bow on it. Of course, things are still fun and games as well. Canadian "toilet rock" punkers The Gnar Gnars spent a week in town which culminated in a sit down with us before a house show at Sky's place. These deviants definitely made for a great chat. Musically, we "drop a track" courtesy of some the gnarliest artists of the year including Abnormality, The Accused AD, Entrails, Batushka, Berthold City, No Mas, and the returning Nocturnas AD. Horns to 2020!

Episode 587: Nightflight To Hades - interview with Nocturnal Departure
Friday Jan 03, 2020
Friday Jan 03, 2020
Let's start 2020 with a bang! No, how about an "Earth - shattering KaBoom!!" Canadian black metallers Nocturnal Departure may be hometown heroes and good friends of the show, but we're not playing faves here. Their debut full lengther "Cathartic Black Rituals" was released by the mighty Redefining Darkness and their Evilness is commanding attention amongst the underground the world over. We sat down with this terror trio, minus the corpsepaint (!!), to discuss said debut, the Canadian climate and its affect on BM, and still dealing with the whole 'Women In Metal' non issue. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we pay tribute to some fallen comrades and crank some ND, label mates Helleborous, Depraver, Skullcrush, and classic stuff from Anacrusis and D.B.C. Horns and Happy New Year!!

When it comes to traditional and NWOBHM inspired acts, Pittsburgh doesn't immediately spring to mind. But the new High Roller Records recording artists Legendry are looking to cast their own stone. "Wizard And The Tower Keep" is an ambitious project and mainman Vidar was eager to share all that went into the making of this future classic. We discussed all the ins and outs of the record. Plus the Pittsburgh metal scene and the meaning behind the "ry". Cool chat #2 is courtesy of Canadian hard rockers Saint Vicious. We've already introduced our listeners to the band. But their recent stopover in town gave us the opportunity to feature them in our "Extended Indie Spotlight". Definitely a band to watch for in '20. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", today more than ever we're living in a PC world and the heavy music world isn't immune to it. This week we discuss and swap stories about some past bands, songs, albums, etc; that would never make it to the new release rack today. Musically, we crank our guests + some Death, High Spirits, some solo Evo (Warfare) stuff, Child Bite, Negro Terror and Professor Black. Horns!!

The legendary Slayer just stepped of the stage for the last time on their farewell world tour. It is an appropeaux time to give our own send off to our version of "The Fab Four". Slayer will always remain trve to our Metal hearts so we had to do it in style. Renowned music author D.X. Ferris literally wrote the book on Tom and the Boys, not once but twice, with "Slayer 66 2/3: The Jeff And Dave Years" and "33 1/3: Reign In Blood". So we tapped Mr. Ferris to co host this special episode to share all his insights and experiences. We chronicle his working relationship with the band, The Relentless Killogy opus, and all of our own personal favourites and band moments. All making for an unforgettable episode. So press play. No mercy will be shown. Not even a divine intervention will spare you from the repentless Hell that awaits. Horns!!

Episode 584: Doom And Dudes - interviews with Year Of The Cobra and Villain
Friday Dec 06, 2019
Friday Dec 06, 2019
Pour a Lemmy and get comfy because we got another extra innings barnburner. Like last week we present two interviews that represent different subgenres of our beloved heavy music. First up is doom/stoner duo Year Of The Cobra in our "Creature Feature". We sat down with bass/vox Amy Tung Barrysmith to discuss the new record "Ashes And Dust", the sound's evolution, and the songwriting process. In our "Extended Indie Spotlight", we go from doom and gloom to 80s party dudes, Villain. We sat down with the boyz over beer and pizza and discussed being a band out of time and all that goes with it. We should be seeing big things from them in 2020. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we discuss what makes the perfect concert and go over the whole VH/billie eilish thing. Musically we crank our guests + All Out War, Lord Mantis, Womit Angel, Skullfist, and Jucifer. Whew again! Horns!

This week is an absolute barnburner of an episode. We aspire to be the best in covering all the diverse stylings that make up the heavy music underground. So we present not one, but two, cool interviews that bookend the musical spectrum. First up in our "Creature Feature", we sat down with Equal Vision pop punkers Calling All Captains. In the unique setting of our own home right before a houseshow!! Not to be outdone, our second chat features Winnipeg black metalllers Cell in our "Extended Indie Spotlight". These unsigned (for now) bangers made incredible waves on their recent North American tour becoming Metal's Best Kept Secret no more. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we dissect the circus that is the Crue/Def Lep/Poison stadium tour and give our predictions for next year's Quebec Deathfest. All this and we break up a bar fight ON THE AIR!!! Musically, we crank our guests plus new Cattle Decapitation, Morbid Angel, Piledriver, Bones, and Nunslaughter! Whew! Horns!
